David Christiaan (1987) is a Dutch artist whose work explores perception, value and truth. Working across painting, sculpture and installation, his work is held in collections in cities including Amsterdam, London and New York.
His practice has also entered into dialogue with science through a co-authored publication with Professor Dick Meijer, Portals Between Art & Science: The Mirror Universe and the Mirror-Art Concept of David Christiaan Hutte.
He is currently developing Indestructible Wealth, an art project centered on a painting of Christ and the relationship between faith, finance and value, which he is documenting through a documentary-style film.
DAVID CHRISTIAAN ABOUT HIS WORK:
“It’s fascinating to experience how an image or idea for a work of art can gradually reveal its essence as I work on it. Starting with a vague sense of beauty or significance, it sometimes develops into an aesthetic narrative.
I consistently find myself drawn to the relationship between perception and reality. This in-between space is where I like to experiment, play and discover what wants to be made concrete. When a concept sparks a feeling that it “must exist,” it is usually a sign that I am onto something truly fruitful.”
